From the womb, I was given Ray Charles, Grateful Dead, and Elvis as nutrients; spoon fed rock & roll and soul music. But though I had so many influences, I didn’t start ‘listening’ to music until I was 10. I’d blast “Welcome To The Jungle” on repeat for my bus ride home because heard it in a video game. Guns & Roses, CCR, Aerosmith. Music started to become my friends. From a young age, I was dealt tragedy. I was angry, and nothing seemed to curve this anger, but when I sang, I was free.
Seventh grade came and I didn’t know what I wanted. That summer I joined a School Of Rock, and I found my music. Steely Dan, Led Zepplin, Allman Brothers; I found a place where I was allowed to be loud! I started with The Who and blew out my voice every chance I got.
In the following years I connected with Soul super stars. Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Tower Of Power. These people became all I listened to. Finally, right after his death, I dove deeeep into Prince. He became the reason I started writing music. The 80’s started the rule my world. De Barge, Chaka Khan, The Time, Micheal Jackson. I love my deeps cuts, and they loved me back. I wanna dance and make other people dance. When I get on stage, I hope that people connect with the beat; that whatever I play, people can connect.
